Women of the Angel
Discover the women behind important campaigns covering many aspects of life including a novelist turned rail safety campaigner, the saviour of City Road Basin and Eleanor Marx. Significant women from the world of entertainment include music hall artistes, Lilian Baylis, who saved Sadler's Wells and laid the foundations for many of today's most significant performing arts companies and Dame Judi Dench and her campaign to recreate Shakespeare's Rose Theatre at Islington Green.

Islington Pride - 50+ Years of LGBTQ History
Islington has a strong and well established LGBT+ community, with a long history of campaigning.
The walk includes Islington's significant LGBT "firsts" such as the UK's first gay mayor, MP, march and demonstration as well local characters such as Joe Orton, Derek Jarman and the extraordinary Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. This guided walk was originally developed for Clerkenwell and Islington's Tour Guide Association (CIGA) in partnership with Islington Heritage and funded by Islington's Pride, an Heritage Lottery Fund funded LGBT+archive project. |
