Explore the colourful history of the Italian community in Clerkenwell and the area around Hatton Garden in the 19th and 20th centuries. Discover organ grinders and fortune tellers, the exploits of gangster, Darby Sabini and Carlo Gatti, the man who introduced icecream to the masses. The walk ends outside the famous Terroni Italian Deli in Clerkenwell Road, where gelato and other Italian delicacies can be enjoyed. Bloomsbury Group Bloomsbury is well known as the home of the writers and artists such as Virginia Woolf who made up the Bloomsbury group. On this walk meet some of the other literary and artistic geniuses who have lived and worked in the area. Find out who could hear his neighbours’ love life through the wall, why a detective writer decided she had to move out and how the director of Bedlam encouraged a local artist. Meet an inspirational feminist, see some trail blazing bookshops and encounter a naked poet. Meet eccentrics, inventors, writers and ordinary people on this walk through Holborn, We will visit some well-known areas and some less known ones and find out about the colourful characters whose lives , work and in some cases, crimes have shaped this area.
